Sofas and day time TV go together like fish and chips. But as sofas become increasingly stylish and comfy, is it really surprising that Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley have been told it’s time to get off the sofa and work a little harder?The One Show stars left the beeb for million-pound contracts with ITV. But the pair has been warned that leaving the comfy One Show sofa for the huge pay deals will mean they’ll have to work much harder. ITV boss Adam Crozier gave Bleakley £2 million and Chiles £6 million to defect channels, although the pair will still have access to another sofa of sorts on the set of their new breakfast show, Daybreak. Daybreak will be stealing the sofa limelight from the much loved GMTV in an attempt by ITV to create the number one breakfast show.
It’s clear that daytime TV presenters love their comfy sofas – Ben Shephard left the GMTV breakfast sofa after ten years on the show and was reportedly holding back the tears on his final appearance. The presenter is moving to Sky Sports and is in talks with other TV programmes. He hugged his partner on the sofa – Kate Garraway – saying GMTV had been a huge part of his life. His comment that the production crew do all the hard work (“we are just the muppets up front who do as we are told and take the glory”) however might add fuel to the ITV boss’s warning to the former One Show presenters to get off the comfy sofa and do some work
